Support the People of Fort McMurray

Find out how you can help those affected by the Northern Alberta wild fires.

On Tuesday May 3, almost 90,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes in Fort McMurray as wild fires encroached on the city.  As the fire engulfed the town, the municipality incurred major damage to infrastructure and housing. The province is still working on plans for rebuilding, but in the mean time, the residents of Fort McMurray have been displaced and can use as much support as possible.

Donations:

Visit the Red Cross’ website for more information about how you can donate to the cause.  Alternatively you can also donate $5 by texting “REDCROSS” to 30333.  The Alberta and Federal government have indicated that they will match every dollar donated to the Red Cross.

Shelter:

While the province has opened up shelter centres for residents with no where else to go, you can also offer accommodation on AirBnB which will be waiving service feeds for those affected by the disaster.

Volunteers:

If you are interested in volunteering your time, you can sign up to help with the regional municipality by clicking here.

Food Donations:

The Edmonton Food Bank is collecting food donations on behalf of those affected. Local businesses like Starbucks are hosting food donation bins for the cause.
