The Alberta Fire Safety Association extends a hearty congratulations to Kevan Jess on his appointment to the role of Fire Commissioner for the Province of Alberta. Kevan has been very supportive of our association over the years and we wish him the very best in his new role. You deserve it Kevan!
The following excerpt is taken from the official announcement:
It is my distinct pleasure to announce that Kevan Jess has accepted the role of Alberta’s Fire Commissioner, effective November 20, 2017. He has been acting in this position since July 31, 2017. Before this, he was the Provincial Fire Administrator from February 2009.
Kevan, who just entered his twenty-ninth year with the Government of Alberta, brings tremendous experience to the fire service portfolio. He started in the fire service as a volunteer with the Westlock Fire Department in 1982. He followed this by obtaining his National Fire Protection Association fire service certifications and training from the Alberta Fire Training School, which later brought him to the provincial government as the regional Fire Service Advisor in Alberta Labour’s Lethbridge Office in 1990.
Over the years, Kevan has worked across Alberta to advance the capacity of municipal and industrial safety professionals and emergency responders. As co-chair of the Safety Codes Implementation Team, he provided Municipal councils with the initial introduction to the newly implemented Safety Codes system and fostered municipal accreditations. During this time, he also conducted hundreds of fire investigations inspections, working with Occupational Health and Safety and Public Health Inspectors and local safety codes officers and other local officials. Kevan has engaged extensively with the safety codes community and the fire service, provincially and nationally, over the past three decades. He has current involvement with numerous Alberta organizations as well as the National Research Council, Standards Council of Canada, National Fire Protection Association and the Council of Canadian Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners.
Please help me welcome Kevan to his new role.
